From two difficult projects to one working system

AEB makes vehicle signage, 4K industrial signage
AEB in Asse makes signage for vehicles. Sister company 4K in Grobbendonk supplies industrial signage and safety equipment, with its own Odoo database.
In both companies the work runs from order through the warehouse to the shop floor, and from there to the customer. What goes wrong on the shop floor shows up in the delivery straight away.
WHY THEY CAME TO US
Two projects that did not deliver a working base
AEB has worked with Odoo since 2023. Before us there were two projects with other partners that did not reach a working base.
The most visible problem was on the shop floor: printing did not work reliably. Labels and documents did not arrive where they had to be, and so processes kept running alongside the system.
WHAT WE DID
Taken over instead of started again
We took over the existing environment and solved the printing first, because that was the reason people were working alongside Odoo. After that the processes were brought into the system one by one.
Printing over our own print server
The print jobs to the shop floor run over our print server, so labels and documents end up on the right printer.
All processes in the same environment
What used to be handled alongside Odoo is now in Odoo itself.
Field service in project tasks
Work on site at the customer is followed up as a project task, with the hours and the materials alongside it.
Stock corrections with a mandatory reason
Every correction asks for a reason, so the differences can be explained afterwards.
Adjustments to the barcode scanner
The scanning screens follow the way the warehouse works, not the other way round.
At 4K: Peppol and photos from the scanner
Credit notes go out via Peppol, and warehouse staff upload photos from the Zebra scanner.
WORKING TOGETHER
The same people, also after the handover
Since the handover we have continued with the same team. Questions and extensions go straight to the people who know the environment, instead of passing through a queue first.
That is what AEB itself names as the difference with the earlier projects: the process is looked at first and Odoo only after that.
WHAT CHANGED
One system instead of a system with detours
Printing to the shop floor, field service, stock corrections and the scanning work are now in Odoo. The processes of AEB and 4K sit in their own environment, without lists and files alongside it.
